FirstLight Fiber Field Service Technician in Buckfield, Maine

SUMMARY:

This position will require technical skills to support the installation of Residential and Business customers on Oxford Networks d/b/a FirstLight Fiber’s Copper and FTTP networks. This work includes copper and fiber Optic installation and repair, network installation, repair and maintenance, customer premise wiring, customer voice services and testing high speed data circuits. This position requires a self-motivated person with a positive, customer focused attitude that excels in a fast-paced environment.

JOB DUTIES:

Some expected duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Copper & Fiber Optic Installations.

  • Residential & Business Wiring: Cat 5e, Cat 6 and fiber optic.

  • Installation of Aerial and Underground copper & fiber drops.

  • Splicing copper drops.

  • Fusion splicing fiber optic drops.

  • Splicing copper cables: air core and filled.

  • Fusion Splicing Fiber Optic Cables: loose tube.

  • Repair & Maintenance on Copper & Fiber Optic Networks.

  • Installation and repair of copper cables, fiber optic cables, aerial closures, snaps, buried kits, pedestals, smart coils, subscriber line cards, repeaters, and noise coils.

  • Responds to after-hour calls (24/7/365) regarding downed lines, broken poles, outages etc.

  • Operates a Bucket Truck for aerial operations, removing trees from lines and equipment.

  • Climbs poles using spiked Pole Climbers.

  • Works with Contractors during major outages.

  • Testing & Troubleshooting copper cables with a Dynatel 965AMS, HST, Fluke, Meggar and Sidekick.

  • Testing and Troubleshooting of fiber optic cables with an OTDR, light meters and HST.

  • Installation and testing of T-Marcs, TXNU’s, ADSL, VDSL and SHDSL on owned and leased facilities.

  • Programming customer premise equipment, Routers, IADs and ATAs.

  • Testing/qualifying high speed data, and WANs, customer voice services.

  • Installing/testing /troubleshooting T-1 & PRI on traditional and SIP devices.

  • Central Office Wiring.

  • May require locating underground cable for dig safes.

  • Perform Site surveys and field forms.

  • Perform Flagging Duties.

  • Team orientated ethics with a positive attitude.

  • Maintain accurate records and report them to Dispatch.

  • All other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

    QUALIFICATIONS/COMPENTENCIES:

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.

  • Must possess a positive, winning attitude.

  • Outside Plant Telephone Experience

  • Copper installation experience

  • FTTP installation experience

  • Aerial & Buried plant installation experience

  • Customer premise wiring experience

  • Copper testing experience

  • OTDR experience

  • Must be able to use spiked Pole Climbers to climb up poles and able to work off the pole.

  • Must be able to operate a Bucket Truck and able to work at high heights.

  • Must be able to operator tools such as a chain saw.

  • Must be able to lift 100-150 pounds.

  • Must be able to climb poles and ladders.

  • Must be able to withstand all types of weather conditions.

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.

  • Must be able to rotate through a weekly on-call list.

  • Must possess a clean Maine Driver’s License.

  • Must pass drug testing and criminal and driving record background checks.

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Field Service Technician experience a plus.

  • Computer knowledge.

    SHIFT SCHEDULE:

    This role is part of an On-Call Rotation (will require some after hours and weekend work). Travel as necessary throughout the ILEC territory in Maine.
