Group Exercise Instructor

Position Summary

As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering dynamic and engaging fitness classes to our members. Your primary responsibility is to lead energizing group workouts that cater to various fitness levels and goals. You will create and execute well-structured exercise routines, ensuring safety and effectiveness throughout the sessions. Your passion for fitness will inspire participants to push their limits and achieve their wellness objectives. Additionally, you will provide motivation, guidance, and support to foster a positive and inclusive workout environment. Collaborating with fellow instructors and fitness staff, youll contribute to the development of innovative class concepts and continually enhance the overall member experience. Your enthusiasm, expertise, and dedication will empower individuals to embrace an active lifestyle and enjoy the benefits of regular exercise.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • - All instructors (certified or not) must audition for all teaching positions.\
    • certifications/Licenses must be maintained (at their expense) throughout the time they are employed.</li>
    • All instructors must maintainCPR/AED/FA certification for class safety. This certification is provided through Campus Recreation and Wellness at a reduced cost.\ \ Audition Expectations:</li>
    • Instructor must demonstrate leadership capabilities and adaptability at the front of class making each session fun and enjoyable while motivating participants.</li>
    • Instructors must demonstrate the ability to move rhythmically to the beat of the music, including the ability to incorporate optimal usage of cueing, tempo, choreography, and safe transitional movements from one pattern to another.</li>
    • Instructors must demonstrate organizational skills in creating combinations to be taught within the parameters of the format.</li>
    • Instructor must use proper volume/speed of music for the class.\ Instructor must have basic working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.\ Demonstrate proper warm-up/cool-down\ *Demonstrate proper stretching of muscles\ Demonstrate proper intensity progression throughout the class\ *Demonstrate proper body alignment of exercises with modifications.\ *Demonstrate proper technique.</li>
    • Never extend knee over the toes during lunges/squats.</li>
    • Never hold your breath during an exercise.</li>
    • Never drop the head below the chest during exercises.</li>
    • Never tug on your neck during abdominal exercises.</li>
    • Make sure the entire foot is on the step during activity using the step bench, etc\ Instructors must demonstrate a highly sufficient degree of energy, and have the endurance to complete each fitness class.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Accredited certification preferred but not required
  • CurrentCPR/AED/First Aid certification (or received 1 month after hire date)
  • Willingness to work hard, and desire to learn
  • Effective communication skills
