Scope of Job
To provide technical support needed on the analysis, maintenance, repair, calibration, installation and upgrades of patient, general medicine, research, medical/other electronic lab equipment. With specialized training is responsible and able to work independently on life support, surgical, specialized, and advanced medical and research equipment systems and technologies and upgrade their network connectivity as necessary. Sustains, supports, and applies best practices to assure that equipment history is documented accurately and timely in agreement with department policies and procedures.
Description of Duties
Provides technical support on the analysis, maintenance, repair, calibration, installation and upgrades of patient, general medicine, research, surgical, medical/other electronic lab equipment.
Performs planned maintenance (PM) and electrical safety inspections on a broad range of patient care, lab, and selected support equipment in compliance with established standards. Manages all assigned equipment and schedules required maintenance service.
Performs pre-acceptance inspections and develops PM procedures on equipment; maintains files on procedures and manuals.
Ensures test equipment is working properly and calibrated within established intervals.
Performs analysis and isolation of mechanical or electronic malfunctions.
Monitors, coordinates and performs any system upgrades accordingly.
Runs safety tests on potentially all medical equipment and to record documentation of all work performed, such as the results of tests, diagnosis, and repairs.
Responds expeditiously to calls from clinical departments and research labs to evaluate and rectify valid operator complaints and concerns.
Researches and initiates orders for repair parts, working within established budget parameters.
Maintains purchase order log and validates invoices for payment (field service personnel only).
Provides informal training to equipment users and staff as requested or when circumstances dictate.
Ensures clear, detailed, and timely documentation of preventive maintenance and repairs.
Makes recommendations to the department manager regarding service strategies on equipment; keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems.
Participates in the Quality Improvement / Risk Management program by gaining an understanding of the issues and concerns of customers and making recommendations for improvement.
Maintains an orderly and functional work environment.
Provides emergency on-call responsibilities as needed.
Documents all significant asset-related actions in compliance with department practices.
Participates in service unit and division meetings.
Collaborates with fellow technical personnel in service unit and division meetings to ensure they are kept abreast of technical updates and/or device-related problems.
Verifies all new equipment meets regulatory guidelines and manufacturer’s specifications and complies with UTRGV Asset Tag and Preventive Maintenance policies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Associate degree in Biomedical Technology ( BMET ) or Electronic Engineering.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
Two (2) years of related biomedical engineering technologist experience servicing clinic/patient care equipment.

Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
