Department Summary:

MITRE’s Human & Organizational Systems Department has an opening for a Group Leader (GL) to join our department leadership team and champion the continued high performance and professional growth of our staff. Reporting to the Department Manager, the GL is a first-line supervisor with responsibilities to: 1) oversee the performance, project placement, and development of group members (8 staff); and 2) contribute to department and Innovation Center management needs. The successful candidate will serve as an example and embodiment of MITRE cultural attributes in action. GLs spend the bulk of as a team member or leader on one or more projects associated with the department capabilities. This position is open to Principal candidates.

Project Impact:

  • Lead or contribute to work and develop high quality products that result in successful sponsor outcomes

  • Define project approaches to address a variety of sponsor needs and constraints

  • Shape approaches to solutions using the integration of capabilities within L230 and other capabilities within MITRE Labs.

    Staff Development, Engagement, and Recruiting:

  • Engage with group members to understand their career objectives, and to identify opportunities and professional development resources to grow professionally

  • Work with each group member to develop annual performance goals that are measurable and have impact for MITRE and the sponsor

  • Track and assess group member performance and provide feedback that assists them to become successful

  • Engage in staffing activities to match projects and staff, utilizing your MITRE network

  • Recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions of group members

  • Engage in department recruiting efforts

  • Participate in department performance evaluation calibration sessions

    Performance and Quality Management:

  • Participate in regular discussions with work leads to ensure mutual understanding of expectations, performance, and growth opportunities

  • Ensure technical quality of the group's work products

  • Ensure group members reach back to leverage MITRE’s capabilities appropriately

  • Provide appropriate interventions when needed

    Department, Innovation Center, and MITRE Extended Leadership:

  • Lead department level management activities that provide an engaging employee experience and effective stewardship of resources

  • Contribute to department, Innovation Center, and MITRE objectives and initiatives

  • Communicate/cascade to group members the messaging of MITRE leadership

  • Engage in work shaping that integrates capabilities for sponsor outcomes for new work

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with in a relevant subject preferred (such as: Business Administration, Organizational Development, Public Policy/Administration)

  • 10+ years of thought, technical, or project leadership roles in enterprise transformation efforts applying HOS stewarded capabilities: Organization Change, Workforce Strategy, Stakeholder Communication, Process Engineering, Business Innovation, Enterprise Architecture and Transition Planning.

  • Applicable experience must be in support of US government organizations.

  • Understands, communicates, demonstrates, advocates for, and embodies the MITRE Good Growth Strategy, MITRE Labs Strategy, and MITRE cultural attributes

  • Ability to define projects and Human & Organizational Systems approaches to address a variety of sponsor needs and constraints.

  • Ability to effectively interact with senior MITRE leaders, management peers, direct reports, and support staff as needed

  • Outstanding communication, inter-personal, and mentoring skills

  • Previous management or leadership experience

  • Must be US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant subject preferred (such as: Business Administration, Organizational Development, Public Policy/Administration)

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
