Our talented people empower us, and we believe in being part of a team that is open, collaborative, entrepreneurial, passionate and above all fun.

About the team

Operating core-banking for one of the world's largest payment processors requires diligence and experience designing and running highly available, highly scalable systems in production.

Worldpay is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to help join a new SRE function within giving you the chance to shape best practices as we migrate our core acquiring platform to a cloud based micro-services architecture.

What you will be doing

You will join our engineering team and work with other key technical teams on the design, architecture and operability of our applications and take a lead in the development of world class monitoring and automation solutions.

You will work with engineering teams based in London, Bucharest and India to design, deploy, maintain Worldpay services, troubleshoot software and infrastructure issues, consult and innovate on core platform design and architecture, and help coordinate incident response.

  • Help shape and build our next gen operations and deployment infrastructure.
  • Perform design, infrastructure, and process reviews to help engineering teams in shipping reliable systems.
  • Advocate for and apply best practices when it comes to availability, scalability, operational excellence and efficiency.
  • Ruthlessly automate, improve and evolve our systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and remediate platform issues and alerts.
  • Engage with engineering team on-calls, helping to debug, improve, and optimize critical backend services.

    Key Purpose of the Role:

To be an infrastructure Devops engineer in the Platform Engineering team and be accountable for overall infrastructure delivery, from design to implementation, both traditional on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure technologies, for a major business area - in this case Worldpay NAP.

Manage infrastructure design, engineering & automation across all Worldpay NAP projects including cloud and on-premises, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality artefacts, high level architecture (Solution Approaches), infrastructure solutions, and designs, detailed specifications and engineering builds that meet the requirements of each project.

Plan and prioritise the delivery of infrastructure according to project priorities - agreeing key milestones and managing day to day delivery, escalations and challenges to ensure key dates are met.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Help drive infrastructure engineering maturity & contribute to the overall technology strategy for both on-premises and cloud designs. Including hybrid cloud connectivity, edge services for cloud (CDN, global cloud load balancing, & DNS).
  • Enabling dev engineering & product teams to move fast into production.
  • Integrating network, infrastructure & operations concepts to deliver our solutions.
  • Be accountable for the low level engineering and operational procedures for selected middleware products.
  • Provide inputs into design of automation for full infrastructure deployments & integration into CI/CD pipelines.
  • To liaise and interface with project managers, enterprise architects, solution architects, infrastructure domains and where relevant the business to ensure that Infrastructure Design & Delivery supports future technology strategy, business strategy and project requirements across all Worldpay business divisions.
  • Where appropriate, contributing to and utilising the delivery of automation for cloud based infrastructure, on-premises infrastructure build, COTS product deployment, configuration, and integration.
  • Take ownership of new initiatives and defining requirements and acceptance criteria for Proof of Concepts and taking suitable solutions into production.
  • Deliver all solutions with an "automation first" approach that reduces and ultimately removes the need for any manual intervention for builds and deployments - ensuring consistency and speed for all environment delivery and change
  • Ensure that standard design and engineer patterns and technologies are selected wherever possible and limit the overall Total Cost of Ownership of technology solutions for Worldpay.
  • Ensuring each technical component & design conforms to standard design patterns for HA & DR, Security, Build Automation, Integration, Monitoring, Configuration Management etc.
  • Take solutions from engineering environments and promote and build into Test, Pre-Production, and Production environments.
  • Manage transition of infrastructure solutions into operational teams, including OAT and security testing.
  • Ensure key milestones are understood, scoped, realistic and agreed with key stakeholders.
