Position Summary
The NERA MedPrep HCOP Academy Program (MedPrep) is a partnership between Rutgers New Jersey medical School, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the Manhattan Staten Island Area Health Education Center. By uniquely building on the collective expertise of the partner institutions, the program aims to expand health careers preparation for minority and economically disadvantaged students throughout their undergraduate careers with the goal of increasing their competitiveness for medical school. Ultimately, we expect that participating scholars will have the humanism, professionalism and interpersonal skills required of a future physician caring for a diverse population.
A major component of the programs is centered on academic enrichment with a focus on improving of scholars performance in pre-health science courses. Supplemental courses are also offered to help scholars strengthen their learning and study skills. Alongside their coursework, scholars participate in practical experiences and career exposure seminars.
Medprep Program Facilitators will assist with managing pre-health science courses and general program execution for all program scholars. Participating scholars are undergraduate students (rising sophomores and Juniors at the time of the program) from diverse backgrounds who generally have varying skillsets and require guidance for education advancement and career exploration. Ideal candidates for the MedPrep Program Facilitator positions are those interested in working with students who fit the demographics previously described. This is a great opportunity to assist with exercising curriculum construction, providing course instruction, and establishing differentiation skills.
