Assistant Technician 

Job Description & Responsibilities 

Mold making: 

Create molds on clients' artwork. 

Mold materials include rubber, sand and waste molds. 

Use proper release techniques to ensure that original artwork is not damaged. 

Cast and sprue waxes: 

Cast waxes from molds created as above, or supplied by client. 

Sprue waxes and prepare for dip. 

Welding: 

Fabricate structural supports as needed 

Weld cast elements together 

Metal chasing: 

Chase welds and imperfections 

Patination: 

Finish cast work with hot or cold patinas or faux finishes 

Equipment used: 

Hand power tools, e.g. drill, jig saw, angle grinder 

Occasional use of table saw, chop saw 

Basic hand tools 

Air tools to cut and chase metal 

Foundry furnace 

Burnout kiln 

Blast cabinet 

TIG welder 

Drill press, Standing & magnetic 

Oxygen/Acetylene torch  

General: 

Job tracking 

Assist with quotes and data entry

Equipment and shop maintenance
