UPMC Sr. Security Officer (Evenings) - UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Mercy is hiring a Sr Security Officer to support our hospital!

This position offers a $1,500 Sign on bonus with a 2 year work commitment, overtime opportunities, shift differentials for evenings/overnights, a competitive benefits package, and PTO. All training/equipment are provided. Preferred candidates will be available from 2:30pm-10:30pm. Apply today!

**All Security Officers hired without a valid Act 235 must complete the 235 certification within their first 6 months of hire and have process completed within 9 months of hire. Candidates must meet audio and visual standards outlined in Act 235 at time of hire.

All Act 235 applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements including:

  • Pass a physical examination by a medical doctor

  • Uncorrected vision of at least 20/70 in one eye and 20/200 in the other

  • Corrected vision of at least 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other

  • Pass hearing examination (permitted to use hearing aid)

  • Pass a psychological examination administered by a licensed psychologist

Title/salary will be determined at time of offer and will be commensurate with experience. Pay range/requirements shown are for Senior Security Officer.

Purpose:

Oversees the operations of assigned shift and formally leads the daily operations of the department. Organizes and assigns work and provides daily instruction to staff regarding specific duties and assignments. Functions as a Security Professional as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary Security site contact for law enforcement agencies, when Department Supervision is not on -site.

  • Serves as the primary Security site contact for Hospital Administration and other Hospital Departments when Department Supervision is not on-site.

  • Supports and implements organizational security plans for high risk patients, visitors, and situations.

  • Assists with the implementation and maintenance of security procedures based on policies determined by Security Management.

  • Review D-3 incident reports for clarity and factual correctness.

  • Ensures that all Officers assigned to work their shift meet the UPMC Security grooming and uniform standards based on policy.

  • Able to make quick, concise decisions while managing several tasks at once.

  • Assists with staff scheduling to ensure that adequate coverage is provided as needed. Functions as a resource to security staff for resolving problems related to daily work assignments. Organizes and assigns day to day activities as needed and follows up to ensure activities are completed according to department standards. Functions as a Security Professional as needed and directed. Provides input to staff performance evaluations. Appropriately escalates problems or concerns to Management's attention. Functionally referred to as Corporal

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.Performs other duties as assigned

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice preferred.

  • 18 months of experience in safety, security, law enforcement, or related field

  • High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life.

  • Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.

  • Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format.

  • Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

  • Must be available for all shifts? Officers are required to wear a bullet proof vest.

  • Must have successfully completed and passed the Basic level of certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS certification)

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 235 with Firearms OR Act 235 without Firearms - All officers hired without a valid Act 235 must complete the 235 certification within their first 180 days of employment.

  • Must meet audio and visual standards outlined in Act 235 at time of hire.

  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification required within 30 days of hire.

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Driver's License

  • IAHSS Basic - International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Basic Certification

  • UPMC Physical Fitness Standard

  • Act 235 with Firearms

  • Act 235 without Firearms

  • Act 34
