Brown University Research Assistant in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

Position Purpose:

The research assistant (RA) will assist in conducting a project that involves studying how green space is associated with sleep and mental health in children. The study involves working with children in order to assess their exposure to green spaces, sleep behavior and mental health through the wearing of devices and administration of surveys. Work activities will involve traveling within Rhode Island to perform data collection visits with participants and their guardians either at their residence or neutral off-site locations, conducting in-person or zoom-based research qualitative interviews, programming and administering surveys, managing participant compensation, and aiding recruitment efforts through flyer distribution and collection, and social media management. The RA will be required to have their own transportation and will be compensated for the mileage.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Conduct data collection visits and qualitative interviews with participants 50 %

  • Programing and administering surveys, and managing participant compensation 25%

  • Assist recruitment efforts 25 %

Job Qualifications and Compentencies:

Education and Experience

  • Required: BA or BS in psychology, public health or related field with 1-2 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Required: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

  • Coursework in research design and experience with research is preferred

  • Experience in programming online surveys (e.g., REDCap software) is preferred

  • Experience managing databases is preferred

  • Experience working with children is preferred

    Job Competencies

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently is required

  • Ability to function as a research team member

  • Must be available to work onsite at Brown University

  • Access to a personal vehicle and willingness to drive is required (note: reimbursement for mileage is provided).

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effort to meet project goals

  • Openness to and interest in learning new skills

  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community

    This is a hybrid eligible position.

All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 12/31/2025 which may be extended based upon available funding.
