Function of Position:

Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Professional Tutors are adjunct faculty and industry professionals who work with students to help them understand course material, develop effective learning strategies and to become better learners.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Help students interpret and understand technical assignments

  • Help students understand and use effective learning strategies so that they become more independent and intentional learners

  • Promote critical thinking and problem solving

  • Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content

  • Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty

  • Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters

  • Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook

  • Depending on your expertise, provide one-on-one and group tutoring assistance in one or more of the courses listed in any of the following subject areas:

  • Construction Technology

  • CIT 101 Surveying

  • CIT 122 Construction I: Elements of Building Construction

  • CIT 123 Construction II: Heavy, Highway and Site Construction

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or AAS degree and five years of in-discipline work experience

  • Experience working with diverse college populations

  • Technology savvy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Tutoring experience

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

    Additional Information:

Pay rate is determined by candidate's degree:

Bachelor's Degree - $17/hr

Master's Degree - $19/hr

PhD - $21.00
