The Opportunity

The marketing organization at USAA has embarked on a transformative effort to become a Member-centric, performance-oriented organization anchored in the historic strength of USAA’s brand. Key goals of the transformation include accelerating performance marketing capabilities, enabling increased deepening and engagement of Members, and driving best-in-class execution across marketing through focused Centers of Excellence. There is significant buy-in for this direction, with a new CMO in seat and a new organization and operating model being rolled out. We are now at a pivotal moment to cement the marketing leadership team and continue to make progress with the hire of a few critical roles.

The Head of Marketing Data & Analytics role is the most senior data and analytics expert within marketing, responsible for (1) representing marketing at the USAA Enterprise level, (2) creating a horizontal data community across the Center of Excellence and Lines of Business, and (3) driving the marketing data agenda – spanning governance, marketing performance measurement, data management, etc. A successful candidate will both look forward to getting into the weeds of marketing measurement models as well as draw excitement from building a strategic data roadmap for the next 2 years.

What you’ll do:

Accountable for providing strategic direction to enable effective and competitive marketing and member engagement execution

  • Within the function – Design, build and maintain the data capabilities and processes that allow for most effective marketing activation

  • Within Marketing – lead the data and analytics community making sure the work that is driven within LOB is consistent with a singular view of performance to allow measurement across LOBs and through the funnel

  • Within SDB – provide leadership in data strategy and innovation to ensure all work across SDB functions

  • Accountable for strategic, tactical, operational, and financial responsibilities associated with CoSA data storage, data preparation, data exploration, information governance, analytics, and information delivery.

  • Accountable for defining and developing business data & analytics strategy to enable achievement of business goals and objectives.

  • Collaborate with company and staff agency data and analytics leaders to identify and deliver actionable insights and products to further USAA’s business strategy.

  • Provide data & analytics products using Agile methodologies to enable fact based, enterprise decisions that drive the achievement of USAA’s mission and goals.

  • May be assigned by the Chief Data & Analytics Officer, to chair high-level cross-business teams to identify strategy synergies and translating these insights into actionable, compliant deployments.

  • Provide strategic direction and thought leadership to the Data and Analytics Community across USAA.

  • Keep current of industry leading practices and advances in across all data & analytics sub-functions as well as the business associated with the assigned CoSA.

  • Fosters analytical innovation and promote the importance of data literacy through sharing of analytics knowledge and best practices.

  • Responsible for educating, overseeing, and monitoring CoSA adherence with Information Governance policy and standards.

  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering or other quantitative field (e.g. finance or a social/behavioral science); OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 10 years progressive experience leveraging data and analytics to drive results in a complex financial services organization.

  • 6 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.

  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of measuring business outcomes, business operations, industry practices and emerging trends.

  • Experience leading matrixed teams using Agile methodologies.

  • Experience building data and analytic teams and capabilities to support business decision making.

  • Proven ability to tell a story through data and communicate problem, impact, and recommendations effectively with senior leadership.

  • Expert ability to consult and advise business leaders on development of OKRs, KPIs and KRIs as well as appropriate data and analytic solutions to address business needs.

  • Experience with large complex database systems & architecture, structured & unstructured data, with diverse analytics methodologies and approaches.

  • Deep understanding of industry best practices and advancements in data and analytics.

  • Deep understanding of risk management and compliance practices with experience developing data strategies that mitigate risk.

What sets you apart:

  • Significant experience working within marketing analytics, including familiarity with marketing performance measurement models like MMO/MTA.

  • Ability to partner and influence cross-functionally, ensuring business needs are met while enforcing data and reporting standardization and guardrails.

  • Familiarity with personalization and next best action modeling (e.g., Pega).

  • Experience building marketing data infrastructure and capabilities within a large, matrixed organization.

  • Experience managing and mentoring data science, data engineering, and/or analytics teams in a highly regulated environment.

What we offer:

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $216,750.00-390,150.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
