Amazon Software Development Engineer, Prime Video Personalization and Discovery in Seattle, Washington

Prime Video is building the future of TV for customers in over 200 countries to enjoy an endless selection of movies, shows and sports on their TV, mobile devices and desktop. We deliver high-quality video to Amazon customers through subscriptions (Amazon Prime, and Channels) as well as purchases, rentals, and free with ads.

The Prime Video re-engagement team suggests videos that are relevant and tailored to our customers’ schedules and environments. We help our customers find content they have engaged with, to provide the most relevant titles for them to watch. We tailor these recommendations through a variety of machine learning and heuristic based algorithms that you can help shape. Not only will you be exposed to the cutting edge of machine learning research, you'll collaborate with a talented team of engineers, scientists and Product Managers to create models to run these predictions and services to provide the results at incredible scale and speed.

Creating reliable, scalable, and high performance products requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems. This person has thrived and succeeded in delivering high quality technology products/services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift fast.

A day in the life

As a Software Development engineer on the Prime Video re-engagement team, you will spend your time as a hands-on engineer and a technical leader. You will play a key role on the team, building and guiding software products and features from the ground up. You will use a wide range of technologies, programming languages and systems. Your responsibilities will include all aspects of software development. At the end of the day, you will have the reward of seeing your contributions benefit millions of Prime Video customers worldwide.

Some examples of the things we work on:

  • Using Machine Learning to recommend titles that customers will enjoy

  • Build and operate services that deliver millions of recommendations per second

  • Extend models and algorithms to support our ever growing ways of consuming content (subscriptions, live, rentals etc), dealing with unique challenges such as arbitration across content types

  • Constantly experimenting with changes to the underlying algorithms and models to deliver relevant content to deliver the best customer experience

About the team

Our team is a mix of Software Engineers, Applied Scientists and Product Managers working together in an experiment driven, agile development process. You'll get to collaborate with teammates on distributed software solutions and get the chance to learn about the machine learning domain. The team has an on-call rotation to ensure our services are continuing to deliver our customers the best customer experience.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
