ProMedica Health System Patient Care Supervisor - Milk Lab - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio

The Milk Lab Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) collaborates with other leadership team members, plans, supervises, implements, and monitors structures, processes, guidelines, policies and procedures related to the milk and nutrition lab. The PCS integrates safety techniques, quality, and continuous performance improvement initiatives that directly affect nutritional needs of patients. The PCS provides leadership in order to supervise day to day operations of the milk and nutrition lab, regulatory compliance, and evidence based practices.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Participates in the selection, orientation, and evaluation of milk technicians and dieticians.
  2. Maintains the milk technician schedule, ensuring adequate coverage.
  3. Handles budgetary surveillance.
  4. Manages technology and software systems.
  5. Initiates and monitors follow-through for maintenance or repair of equipment.
  6. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  7. Establishes and revises new and existing policies and procedures related to the nutritional needs of patients through safe preparation, storage, and delivery of infant feedings.
  8. Ensures data is collected for quality review.
  9. Monitors safety event reporting and provides recommendations/solutions for improvement.
  10. Acts as a liaison between the milk and nutrition lab, dieticians, and participating ECH departments with communication and distribution of pertinent information.
  11. Manages supply inventory, ordering and stocking.
  12. Functions as Milk Technician when assigned (See Milk Technician job description—addendum)
  13. Performs other duties as directed.

Education: Associate’s Degree in related field such as registered dietician, registered nurse, or registered pharmacist Skills: Expertise in infection prevention, best practices, formula and human milk recipe calculations, and regulatory requirements for handling and management of human milk and formula. Strong math and computer skills; successful passing of a math proficiency test related to milk feeding orders; ability to comprehend medical terminology; possess knowledge of and experience with aseptic technique; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Certification: Must have CPR certification upon start or date of completion of orientation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field Skills: Knowledge of Women’s and Infants Timeless application preferred but not necessary Years of Experience: 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred, but not required; 1-2 years of experience in a milk lab role preferred but not necessary
