Howmet Aerospace Compensation Consultant in United Kingdom

Primary Purpose of the Function

As a member of the Corporate HR Compensation and Benefits team, and under the general direction and supervision of the Senior Compensation Consultant Europe, the Position is responsible to manage and execute a set of activities related to Compensation & Benefits in the European region (including Morocco). Depending on the level of expertise in the Position other activities could be expected and assigned to the Position.

Major activities/Key accountabilities

1- Facilitate the annual salary review (MI) and year-end IC / PP / LTI planning process across the region.

  • Collaboration and coordination with the global Comp CoE Coordinator and HR Technology Team to facilitate the overall process in the region, including expansion projects (e.g. PP pay-out calculation across all BU organizations).

  • Testing, checking, validating (system and data).

  • Communication / coordination with the BU-RU HRDs and Comp SPAs to facilitate the process for their organizations in the region.

  • Coaching of the BU-RU Comp SPAs and local HRMs on how to set-up and manage the GPS Comp process for their organizations.

  • Supervise the correction process and data transfer from GPS Comp module to the various payroll instances. Act as help chain.

  • Provide support to BUs-RUs in the region to manage off-cycle / out of GPS Comp module annual salary review process using Excel based toolkits.

2- Manage activities in relation to compensation surveys and the sourcing of market data.

  • Collection of internal data (re. base pay, fixed allowances, variable compensation, long term incentives, benefits) through the HR system (GPS) and Payroll functions for the countries participating in the compensation surveys.

  • Data preparation and submission to the compensation surveys’ providers.

  • Sourcing of market information on salary movements, including inflation indicators, through the participation in ad-hoc surveys and reports to help define salary increase (MI) budgets.

  • Market data mining to help ad-hoc compensation benchmarking and placement checks.

  • Interact with Market data providers re. above listed activities.

3- Develop / maintain compensation structures for different country markets.

  • Review and confirmation of peer groups for each country market.

  • Market data extraction from market database (by peer group and general industry market).

  • Update of working tools to compare market data to existing Company guidelines for base salary, variable pay targets, and equity awards guidelines.

  • Analysis of market data to help identifying necessary adjustments to current programs & compensation structures.

  • Calibration of the base salary mid-points, VP targets, LTI guidelines and pay-mix.

  • Maintenance / update of the standard country TDC structures’ templates.

4- Act as a C&B Consultant to perform various ad-hoc activities and provide the provisions of advisory services to the HR and line management community.

  • Compensation benchmarking / analysis for individual job positions, job functions or entire organizations.

  • Job grading assessment (define placement of job positions in the Company’s job levelling system) for individual job positions, job functions or entire organizations.

  • Compensation proposals for job offers to new hires or for promotions.

  • Advice on how to manage promotions and off-cycle salary adjustments.

  • Provide coaching, support and advice to the HR and line management community in the context of compensation reviews and related adjustments.

  • Maintain and provide the HU salary increase (MI) and Labor Cost Budgeting Excel toolkits.

  • Contribute in the preparation of the annual UK Gender Pay Gap reporting.

  • Contribute in Corporate and GBU/BU initiatives related to compensation.

  • Contribute to the project re. the EU Directive 2023/970 on Equal Pay and Pay Transparency.

5- Support Training, Communication and Branding initiatives

  • Contribute to the development of training material for HR / line management community around the Company’s compensation concepts, programs and processes.

  • Contribute to the development of communication and branding material for the employees around the Company’s compensation concepts and programs.

  • Contribute to the training / communication activities to the HR / line management community and employees.

  • 8-10 years professional experience, including 5 years in the HR function of an international organization, ideally 3-5 years in the Compensation and Benefits practice (alternatively strong interest for career development in the Compensation and Benefits practice).

  • Good general knowledge of the compensation and benefits practice / concepts (base pay, fixed compensation, variable compensation, long term incentives, compensation management, state social benefits, typical employer’s provided benefits, typical compensation terms & benefits).

  • Knowledge of Job Evaluation methodologies, preferably the Hay Job Evaluation Methodology.

  • Good knowledge of Oracle HR system and reporting tools or equivalent.

  • Good command of the various Microsoft tools, especially Excel and Power Point.

  • Numbers oriented and at ease with data processing / calculation.

  • Precision accompanied with strong analytical skills combined with ability to decide when best estimate is acceptable practice.

  • Ability to work independently, under limited supervision (review of end results) / managerial direction, and potentially remotely from the supervisor and the rest of the global C&B team, yet a team player and able to develop relationships with a variety of internal actors within the HR community.

  • Ability to coach, support and influence the HR / line management community in making decisions on remuneration policy and pay market positioning.

  • Excellent communication / presentation skills.

  • Proficient in English (other languages, French / German, an asset).
