Social Security Administration Lead Claims Assistant (Lead Benefits & Earnings Technician) in Woodlawn, Maryland

You may also view the full position description on the Agency intranet at the following link: PD Search The Lead Claims Assistant functions as an expert technician providing technical support and direction to GS-07 Claims Assistants (BET) and trainees, and/or adjudication process required to administer programs under the Social Security Act. Responsibilities Monitors and reviews workload, status reports, alerts, exceptions, and aged listings to ensure timely completion of workload and detect workflow/workload issues. In consultation with the supervisor, assigns work and balances workloads. Reviews and comments on new procedures; assists in developing supplementary procedures and/or reminder items for unit personnel. Identifies applications systems related problems, evaluates delays and recommends and/or takes corrective action. Evaluates delays in the processing of initial claims and recommends action to expedite adjudication. Meets regularly with counterparts to discuss processing problems, procedures, and resolve differences in interpretation of policies and regulations. Provides timely responses to requests for assistance form internal and external sources. Identifies individual training needs and provides feedback to supervisor on the need for formal classroom training. As required, develops training materials to supplement individual coaching/mentoring and provides classroom or on-the-job training. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-07 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes monitoring and reviews workload, status reports, alerts, exceptions, and aged listings to ensure timely completion of workload and detect workflow/workload issues; identifying individual training needs and provides feedback to supervisor on the need for formal classroom training; reviewing systems generated exceptions and alerts to identify cases that have special processing requirements and processes the most complex cases and/or those that require a new approach or present unusual challenges. Education Additional Information Location: This position is located in the Office of Central Operations (OCO), Division of Public Support Operations (DPSO), Robert M. Ball Building, 6401 Security Boulevard, Woodlawn, MD 21235. This is a bargaining unit position, represented by AFGE, to be filled under the provisions of the SSA/AFGE Merit Promotion Plan. Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date of the initial selection. LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected; they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay. OTHER NOTES: This position is eligible for telework. Relocation expenses will not be paid. TOUR OF DUTY: Monday through Friday; Flextime and AWS are available. Note: Part-time employees may not be converted to full-time by way of this announcement. This is a moderate risk trust position. The selected employee will be required to complete a Standard Form 85P, Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions, in order to have the appropriate investigation conducted, unless the employee has been previously certified eligible to occupy a position at this level.
